<p>When the Spanish discovered the people of Mexico, they were treated to this drink. They took it back to Spain, where cooks created new recipes with it. Spain kept it a well-hidden secret for about 100 years. Once the rest of Europe learned about it, drinking hot chocolate became very popular among the rich and powerful. Over the next 300 years, the well-to-do in Europe drank their hot drink in special dishes designed just for this beverage. These sets are very hard to find today.</p>

<p>Coconut: Is it a nut?<br />
Although its name suggests that it is a nut, it actually does not follow. A nut is a part of a fruit that has a hard shell and that does not reveal its content until maturity or decay. Coconut is not considered a true not although it has a shell. It does not belong to the family of true nuts like acorns, hazelnuts, chestnuts, oaks, and beeches. However, its shell is very much essential despite its being an illegitimate nut. Its shell can be used to make bowls, buttons, and other accessories. Also, it can be used as a substitute for firewood.</p>
<p>Coconut: Is it a seed?<br />
When botany is concerned, coconut cannot be classified as a seed. A seed is defined as a plant&#8217;s embryo that is covered by a seed coat. It does not have the parts of a seed, such as the seed coat, the food for the seed, and the embryo. Further, there are still three parts inside a seed&#8217;s embryo: the radicle, the cotyledon, and the hypocotyl. Although a coconut is not a seed, it has some characteristics of a seed, specifically on how it grows its parts. From a mature coconut that has fallen to the ground, the radicle is developed from the embryo out of one of its three eyes or stoma. The radicle then clings to the ground, and its other end adheres to the inside of the seed, developing a white, albuminous flesh in the end called the meat.</p>
<p>Is Coconut a Fruit?<br />
A fruit is strictly defined in botany as a part of a flowering plant that is formed mainly in the ovary. In broad terms, it means a part of a plant that bears the seed. Coconuts are classified as fibrous one-seeded drupe, or a fleshy indehiscent fruit with a single seed. Coconuts meet the requirement of being a drupe because of its three layers: the exocarp or outer layer; the mesocarp or fleshy middle layer; and the endocarp or hard, woody layer surrounding the seed. The coconut fruit, as we can legitimately call it now, has several benefits. Its flesh or endosperm, the white part inside the shell, can be eaten; when it is from a young coconut, it can be made as coconut jelly, but once it becomes hard it can be grounded for its coconut milk or cream.  </p>
<p>It is no wonder why scientists devoted so much effort in rooting the most definite classification of a coconut. Interestingly, it has at least some characteristics of being a nut, a seed, and a fruit.
