Buying Tips When Purchasing A Contemporary Dining Table

Author: Deke Primo  //  Category: dining

The dinner table is one of the most important items of furniture within a home. It’s where the family can come together to discuss their problems and to help each other out. Children in families that all eat together have been proven to get on better at school and achieve better grades. The dining table plays an important part in this because it has to be comfy and fit everyone around it.

The size of your family and the amount of people you normally have round to dinner parties will have a large bearing on the size of the dining table you require. The most common shapes of a dining table are circular and rectangular so you should be able to find something to fit in every shape of room. I preferred a circular dining table as it means every can easily see each other and helps to promote conversation.

For household or often have extra guests but don’t want a large table taking up loads of room the rest of the time then an extendible table is a great solution. You simply insert some extra wood in between the middle of the table and you have more room for extra dinners.

A craze to hit the UK in recent years is ‘mixing and ‘matching’. It’s not for the faint hearted as it involves buying a completely different type of type and individually styled chairs. You effectively make your own set from all the different designs available. This can be difficult to do so I wouldn’t recommend it unless you have some artistic flair in you.

Glass, plastic, metal and wood are just some of the materials available to have your dining room table made out of. The key to choosing your material is to make sure it matches the style of the rest of your home.

If you have a very old fashioned house like a period cottage then it makes far more sense to go for a solid wood table rather than a glass table with a chrome metal frame!

Things to LOVE

Author: Haylee Landford  //  Category: dining

We are always reminded most of the things we love in February. Whatever the form, it could be a person, a place, or just things. Our existence in the world would be quite dreary without this reminder. It would do us all good to stop and take a look at all the things that deserve our love.

Forgive my indulgences, you’ll have to remember that I live in a college town and am married to a college student. The first item I love, then, is pizza, naturally. But, you have to understand that this is no ordinary pizza that I love.

Craigo’s makes a five dollar pizza with sultry buffalo wing sauce. It is all in the sauce. Anybody can make a pizza with tomato sauce, but to eat a pizza with buffalo wing sauce will convert you entirely to a new way of eating.

Being a mom, wife, and germophobe, I have come to love many different cleaning supplies that make my life faster, easier and cleaner. The most recent discovery I have made is Electrosol cleaning tablets for your dishwasher detergent. It is so effective in cleaning your dishes, but the best part is that the sweet fragrance fills your whole kitchen with sanitized delight.

Since February comes smack dab in the middle of winter, I find myself very much in love with boots. I am lucky enough to have found a boot to accommodate any situation. Furry, waterproof Staheekum snow boots; leather, knee-high, brown dress boots, and orange, cozy, knit Gap slipper boots keep my feet and legs dry and warm. Bring on the snow, I’ll look fabulous in it.

BBC revives our deepest romance with their latest adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma. BBC won my heart long ago, but this witty, sensuous, and fun love story completes February lovin’ for me. It aires on Masterpiece Theater, of better yet just buy the DVD online and watch it anytime.

And while we are online, finding the perfect gift is as easy as sitting on your couch with a laptop. Malls are no longer a necessary part of our world. Why not stay at home, and let your fingertips do the shopping. It could be a sewing needle or wool insulated socks, rosebushes, or acres of beautiful land, all available online.

We’ll have to go to the bedroom for my dearest love — flannel sheets. I’ve tried silk, satin and even Egyptian cotton, but this is the way the sandman intended for us to sleep. There are deep places in your most beautiful sleep, that can only be dreamed of while wrapped in flannel.

The way to feel love is to share it, which is why I’m telling you my favorites. It would be so fulfilling for me to find you love these items as much as I do, but even moreso the love needs to come from what you find irresistible. St. Valentine himself would want nothing more for you than to find what you love and be loved in return.

Basic Etiquette For Waiters In Restaurants

Author: Adriana Noton  //  Category: dining

There is nothing worse than having a dining experience ruined by an obnoxious waiter. Even though certain behaviors are obviously inappropriate, some waiters in restaurants still do the most annoying things. Here are some dos and don’ts for waiters that will make eating out a better experience for everyone.

For starters, don’t hang around the guests while they are eating. Shortly after their food has been served, you should pop over and make sure they are satisfied with everything. Then leave them alone to enjoy their meals. Scan the room frequently to see if any of your patrons are trying to get your attention.

When they are deciding what to order, don’t be impatient or rush them. Ask them if they’d like a few minutes to look over the menu. Then actually wait a few minutes before returning to see whether they are ready. If they have trouble deciding what they want, don’t sigh or roll your eyes. It really should be no big deal to you if they need a little extra time.

If the restaurant customer has a complaint, ALWAYS say you are sorry. Even if you are not. Do not blame them or make excuses. Apologize and tell them that you will find a way to solve the problem. If there is nothing you can do for them about their particular concern, find somebody who can.

Another important topic concerning waiters is removing plates. It is downright shocking how many waiters magically appear the moment a patron’s fork touches the last piece of food. Before they even have a chance to chew that final bite, the dishes are scooped up and whisked away. This can make the customer feel as though you have been counting down the seconds until they finished so that they can leave. Not good.

One more note on clearing away the dishes. Under no circumstances should you remove one person’s plate if another person at the table is still eating. It is stunning how many waiters do this. For one thing, it can make the person still eating feel uncomfortable and that he or she should stop. It is like you are setting the pace for their meal. That is not your job.

There are other things that should be obvious, yet still we see in restaurants every day. Don’t shout or point at a customer. Do not play with your hair, chew gum or argue with other staff where customers can hear you. Don’t smoke cigarettes where they can see you. Never touch a patron or handle any of their personal property. And under no circumstances should you tell a customer that you cannot wait until it is time to go home. And for crying out loud, refrain from asking for tips or counting them in view of the guests.

As for the dos: do be well groomed at all times. Dress nicely and make sure your shirt is tucked in and tie is straight. Always be polite and give the guests a smile. Thank them for dining at your establishment and say it so that it seems like you mean it. Even if you don’t.

In the city known for its popular vacation destinations for Vancouver travel, have an enjoyable dining experience at the many accessible restaurants. Also, when purchasing Vancouver real estate, you may want to consider an area with lots of options for delicious foods.

What To Know Before Shopping For Dinnerware

Author: Oliver Wright  //  Category: dining

Picking out your first set of dinnerware is a pretty exciting feeling. Before shopping; however, there are some general ideas to keep in mind. There is a vast amount of styles, colors and patterns to choose from so if you have a basic idea of what you need it will limit the amount of styles you will need to look at.

Dinnerware can be casual or china. China is extremely beautiful; however, it is not practical for everyday use. It cannot be put in the microwave or the dishwasher. If this is your first purchase of dinnerware that will be used for every day, you should opt for a more casual set.

The basic pieces needed are dinner plates, soup/cereal bowls, tea cups and salad plates. Additional pieces can also be purchased to match your place settings such as dessert bowls, salt/pepper shakers and gravy bowls. These are rarely used and unless you intend to use your dinnerware for regular entertaining are unnecessary purchases.

The best way to judge exactly how many pieces to start with would be to purchase four of each basic piece. It is suggested you purchase additional pieces of the basic dishes; however, if you are just beginning you could purchase additional pieces a few at a time.

You will also need to decide which shape of your dishes you prefer. The styles come in square as well as the traditional round. A square set is a modern style. They are extremely popular now; however, if you do not purchase enough pieces and need additional later on it may be difficult to find the exact square plate you currently chose.

Try to choose a style that will go well with the area in which you will be dining. If you are completely torn, opt for round white plates as a temporary option. The white plates look good with every color and dining room design.

Once you have chosen a color, next will be a pattern. There are many patterns available, ranging from plain, geometric to Victorian. The Victorian pieces are very pretty and give that nostalgic memory feel; however, it may be difficult to replace broken or lost pieces if you choose an intricate pattern.

Whichever pattern and color you choose the most important thing for everyday use is it durability. The dinnerware should be made well and be able to take a lot of wear. If you prefer there are package sets with settings from four to twelve. These are less expensive normally and very durable.

For beautiful china that is both microwave safe and dishwasher safe you need to look at Johnson Brothers Ironstone, see the full collections at Johnson Tableware.

Ever Used Golden Corral Coupons?

Author: Collette Quinn  //  Category: dining

Have you heard about Golden Corral? This is a very popular chain of restaurants that offers high quality buffet dining. The restaurant offers all you can eat options and this makes it a very affordable choice for people with growing families. Many people love how the restaurant is divided into an area with hot dishes, one with cold dishes and one that offers desserts and bakery items. There is even a breakfast buffet on the weekends that allows you to get a quality brunch that is also affordable.

Even though eating here can be a great value for the family, it never hurts to have coupons in order to make your meal even more affordable. You may be pleasantly surprised by the deals that you can find if you have the right coupons. Although having the coupons in hand is best, it is always a good idea to know where to find them on a regular basis so that you have them in future as well. You may have an easier time finding coupons on some occasions but even if you have to do a bit of looking around you will be rewarded when it comes time to pay the bill.

The good news is that you can often find Golden Corral coupons in newspapers and flyers. They are often printed in coupon circulars as well. Taking the time to look through the newspaper may be worth it if you can shave a few dollars off of the cost of your meal. Remember that if you find a good coupon you can always get more copies of the paper or circular that it was sent to you in. Don’t think twice about asking your family and friends for their copies. If the deal is something that will really help your family out you might want to buy a few extra copies if the coupon was in a news paper. You can usually earn back the cost of the papers in the savings you find.

If you can’t find pre-printed coupons you might want to think about online coupon sites. You can always check the company website in order to find out if there are any upcoming specials that you don’t need coupons for and then go on to look elsewhere for additional savings. Often, independent coupon websites are a great way for you to save money.

Golden Corral coupons are fantastic and can really make eating out more reasonably priced for anyone on a budget. If you know where and when to look you can enjoy the knowledge that you are helping make a meal out much more affordable no matter what your budget is.

Dining is cheaper with Golden Corral coupons. Find out how to get a Golden Corral coupon on my website.

The World of (1) Porcelain (2) Earthenware (3) Porcelain

Author: Diana Richards  //  Category: dining

Let’s take a tour around the typical kitchen. You will see various bowls, plates, mugs, and cups, but have you ever stopped to consider what they are made out of? Your typical dinner set is made out of three main materials, namely earthenware, stoneware, and porcelain. Most of us have heard of these materials before, but don’t know what the differences are. This article will help to shed some light on this issue…

Earthenware —————- Made from a white and porous clay, Earthenware is what is known as a “low-fired” clay. Fired at a low temperature (usually around’15 degrees Fahrenheit), it is sometimes called “ceramic ware” or “ceramics”.

Stoneware ————– Stoneware (unlike Earthenware) is a “high-fired” clay. It is fired around 2185 degrees Fahrenheit, and as a result of this intense heat, it is much stronger than Earthenware. This firing makes it vitreous (i.e.: like glass), and is chip-resistant and sturdy.

Porcelain ———– Porcelain is made out of a number of ingredients. A pale clay (such as china white) is the main material. Other materials, such as glass, granite, and feldspar are ground, and then added to the clay. Enough water is added to make the mixture workable. After working this mixture into the shape you want, it is fired in a bisque kiln at a moderate temperature. After glazing and a “high-temperature” firing, you have a piece of pottery that is delicate and translucent.

Telling the Difference ————————– Now that we know a bit about each, how do we tell them apart? Here’s the process:

1) First check to see if it is porcelain. Unlike stoneware and earthenware, porcelain is translucent. Hold the piece up to the light? What do you see? If you can see some light shining through…then it’s porcelain.

2) If you have come this far, you know it’s either stoneware or earthenware. What’s the next test? How heavy is the item? If it’s pretty heavy for its size, then it’s most likely stoneware.

3) Another test is that stoneware has the “look” of hand-made pottery. It will have a texture to it, while earthenware does not.

4) If the piece you are holding has a chip in it, take a close look at it. Is the area very white and “chalky” looking? Can you scrape off a bit more material with your fingernail? If so, then it’s probably earthenware. Earthenware (once it has been fired) has a white, chalky look. Stoneware has a darker, textured look.

5) If any part of the piece happens to be unglazed, then what do you see? If you see a textured clay, then this piece is stoneware.

Did you enjoy this little journey into the world of dinner set materials. We now know that porcelain, earthenware, and stoneware are the three main options. More information on dinner sets is available on our blog.
